At just 22, Lucy Fallon has been making waves in the acting industry
After only three years in the show and aged just 22, she beat off competition from EastEnders’ Lacey Turner, Emmerdale’s Danny Miller and her co-star Barbara Knox, to pick up the prestigious trophy.
“It was overwhelming,” she recalls. “Not for one second did I think I would win so I can’t remember much about it! I’d not prepared any sort of speech; I think that was obvious when stuff just started coming out of my mouth and not making much sense.”
While her boyfriend and parents were in the audience to celebrate with her, Lucy decided against partying into the early hours.
“It wasn’t a wild night,” she smiles. “We had a few drinks, but I was hungry so we got back to the hotel at 12.30 and I had spaghetti bolognese!”

Lucy’s award followed her performance last year as her character Bethany Platt was groomed and abused by her older boyfriend Nathan Curtis and his friends. In the aftermath of her ordeal, Bethany took up lap dancing, and while in recent weeks she has been working at Audrey’s hair salon, this week she quits and is tempted back to her former life.
“She’s rude to a customer at the salon and then hears her family talking about her behaviour, so she storms out and phones her lap-dancing friend, Sam,” Lucy says. “The lap-dancing club has been taken over and when she gets there the manager sends her over to a table of rowdy men on a stag do.
“The men are loud and trying to touch her and she has a flashback and thinks she sees Nathan. She picks up a bottle and hits one of the men in the face.”
The police are called and Bethany is arrested.
“She thinks she’s over everything that happened, but she’s not,” Lucy explains. “Her mum suggests she goes back to counselling, but in the meantime the police tell her she’s going to be charged with GBH.”
To film the scene, Lucy used a bottle made from sugar glass, a brittle form of sugar that looks like glass and shatters easily and harmlessly on impact.
“I’ve smashed up a lot of stuff in my time at Coronation Street,” she laughs. “It gets rid of a lot of pent-up tension!”
Lucy grew up in Blackpool, and after studying performing arts at sixth form, landed an audition to play Sarah Platt’s daughter, Bethany. She was working in a bar on Blackpool Pier at the time.

As well as her award-winning portrayal of Bethany, she also won ITV’s All Star Musicals last year.
“I’d love to appear in a musical in the West End one day, but I don’t know whether it would ever happen,” she says shyly.
Lucy now lives near Blackpool with her boyfriend Tom Leech but confesses that little has changed since she moved out of her parents’ home.
“Tom works from home and I’m at Coronation Street a lot, so he does all the washing – being an adult is quite easy!” she giggles.
One area where Lucy does rule the roost, however, is in her beauty room. “There’s a dressing table with a big mirror with lights around it. All my make-up and clothes are in there. It’s lovely, but a bit cluttered!”
It’s the room where Lucy plans to keep her NTA award – once she’s reunited with it, that is. When we chat, it’s still making its way back to Manchester following a mix-up.
“I’ve got some shelves in that room so I’ll put it in a corner,” she smiles.
Let’s hope there’s room on those shelves for plenty more!
